Bookkeeper/Office Manager

Key Objectives of Role

  • Oversee the vast general administrative duties of the business
  • Oversee the entirety of the day-to-day accounting functions and ensure that the information is accurate, reliable and timely
  • Ensure Alexander Racing is a professional and efficient operation

Reporting / Working Relationships

The Office Manager reports to and is accountable to Annie Alexander.

  • Supports the Training & Racing teams
  • Works with the external accounting advisors as required
  • Possible dealings with statutory bodies such as the ATO, super, work cover, payroll tax etc

List of Duties

  • Oversee the accounts payable function
  • Prepare monthly owner/debtor accounts and oversee the debtor function
  • Ensure information regarding the location of horses is accurate
  • Preparation of bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Preparation of general ledger reconciliations
  • Preparation of horse bloodstock schedule
  • Preparation of payroll functions including ensuring correct awards and pay rates are applied
  • Assist the external accountant in preparing ATO obligations (IAS & BAS)
  • Assist in the preparation of other statutory requirements such as; payroll tax, superannuation, fuel tax credits, fringe benefits tax and workcover
  • Ensure the information provided by the Ardex accounting system is accurate and reliable
  • IT co-ordination and problem solving – liaison with IT consultant
  • Owner communications
  • Inputting horse and owner details on Ardex
  • Reconciling horse movements/statuses on Ardex with stable diary
  • Prepare and assist clients with horse and owner registration processes including owner transfers.
  • Coordinating shareholders in Alexander Racing managed syndicates.  
  • Complete stable returns with Racing Australia.
  • Registering employees with Racing Victoria

Special Conditions

  • Normal working hours are from 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Alexander Racing provides a flexible working environment to the right candidate.

Essential Characteristics


  • Previous accounting experience is required
  • Experience or at least an appreciation of the horse breeding and racing industry is preferable
  • Competent with the suite of Microsoft office products

Trackwork Rider

We are currently looking for an experienced rider to join our team. The position is for 6 mornings a week, 5 to 11am, with additional hours (afternoon stables, racing, weekends) an optional extra. You will ride 8 horses per morning and must be capable and confident riding a range of horses. Previous trackwork experience preferred, but not necessary for a competent rider. 

Well above award rates for the right candidate.
